FAQ
- Q: Do I need to book a class? A: yes it is essential to book as you need a registration form to be filled in first
- Q: What do I need to bring? A: a non-slip yoga mat & cotton/fleece blanket or a towel.
- Q: Are classes suitable for complete beginners? A: most are suitable or are a beginners level, but it's best to check first.
- Q: I have health issues- will that be a concern? A: it's best to check with your GP first that you are ok to attend. I ask all students to fiill out a Registration Form before enroling. There are a few serious health issues that might prevent a student attending classes.
- Q: What do I wear to class? A: loose, comfortable layers you can easily move in - leggings, tee/top, shorts for men.
- Q: Can I wear shoes or socks? A: socks are worn for relaxation & warmer layers are needed too. However the yoga class is done in bare feet.
- Q: Can I drink water in class? A: It's best not to as it disrupts the body's flow and interferes with digestion, plus it cools the body down (coounteracting the internal heat built up in practice).
- Q: What about food? A: energy is needed in the body, but please don't eat a heavy meal for 4 hours before class or a light snack one hour. It can make you sluggish and cause discomfort in certain poses and divertts energy into digestion. A simple snack like nuts/seeds or a banana won't clog you up and will release energy slowly.
- Q: is Yoga a religion & is there chanting in class? A: no, Yoga is a practical philosophy & people of all religions use Yoga to help their wellbeing. Chanting is not done in class, apart from three 'aum's' in the general/advanced classes at the beginning.
- Q: what happens if I arrive late to class? A: please wait until we have finished sitting with our eyes closed, so as not to disturb the class. When entering I may advise you to do some warming up poses before joining in.
- Q: what happens if I start sneezing or coughing in relaxation? A: roll over to the side and curl up, to see if helps alleviate the symptoms. Don't feel you have to leave or if neccessary carry some water to drink.
- Q: how do I pay for a class? A: in advance and I offer BACS or cash payment at your first class.
- Q. Can I carry over a missed class? A;No, but you can swap or do a second class another day/week and 'bank' it for a later date. Alternatively I offer a recording of class, lasting 4 weeks.
- Q. Why does my teacher ask if anyone is on their period? A. during the menstrual cycle the body is low onn energy, so some poses should be avoided, especially inversions which reverse the energy and natural downward blood flow.
